EGNE is pleased to share that we’ll be doing fall virtual workshops with Amanda Dennison and Jan Harrell.

Amanda Denison Virtual Workshop

Two Saturdays, November 5 & 12, 2022
Experimental Enamel:  Introducing Rust

The workshop will explore how you can enhance enameled steel pieces with the introduction of rust. The emphasis is on experimentation. It will cover the various steels you can use, how to prepare and apply liquid enamels and explore different tools for mark-making. We will explore abrading surfaces prior to the rusting process and the pros and cons of natural rusting vs accelerated processes. Finally, some cheats with copper will be discussed.

The emphasis is on experimentation and breaking the rules. Students will be set a challenge to do in the week between sessions and their samples will be shared and discussed in the second session. There will be a private Facebook group for students to join with information, resources and scope to share work and ask questions.

Jan Harrell Virtual Workshop

Saturday & Sunday, November 12 & 13, 2022
All that Glitters: Using Patterned/Embossed/Burnt Gold Foil in Enamel

GOLD! GOLD! GOLD!

in this workshop, you will learn a cost-effective way to incorporate gold into jewelry scale enamel projects by capturing gold foil and leaf under and over glass. Jan will demonstrate three specific techniques along with many samples and finished projects. Jan’s goal is to provide students with a better understanding of the ways in which gold foil can be manipulated to create exciting high-impact textures and patterns.

Along with the use of gold, there will be many tips and techniques to achieve a crisp, detailed stencil that is pivotal to this and many enamel designs. (While silver foil can be used, the results will not be as crisp, because of the difference in the foil’s thickness.)

This workshop is open to all levels but these techniques are best utilized by some foundation and experience in enamel.
